Sundays 9:30 & 11
Lord's Day worship at 9:30 and 11:00 AM. Coffee Break between the services at 10:30 AM. Fellowhsip meal follows at 12:30.
The goal of our Sunday worship service is to give praise and honor to God. As the greatest means to this end, the preaching of the Word has the central place in our service of worship. We believe in the value of expository preaching (the preaching which St. Chrysostom describes as that in which “God speaks much and man little”). In expository preaching the minister seeks to draw out of the text the meaning and application that the Lord has inspired, ordinarily doing so by way of working through books of the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. When it comes to preaching, we agree with David Thomas: “It is only as [God’s ideas] are brought out of the text and flashed into souls that men are spiritually and really helped… The sentences of God’s Book should not be used as pegs on which to exhibit man’s thoughts, but rather as seminal substances out of which, by culturing effort, he may bring out trees of life whose fruit shall be for the healing of the nations.” (from the introduction to his A Homiletic Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, 1870).
We also unite together to offer praise and thanksgiving to the Lord in both song and prayer as well as to confess our sins and offer tangible gifts of gratitude. The gospel of Jesus Christ is also communicated through the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, normally observed on the first Sunday of the month. The covenant sign and seal of Baptism is administered when occasion requires.
